ALEXANDRIA, La. – Midland University went 2-3 on its five-game road trip to open the baseball season. 

The Warriors beat Champion Christian College 6-3, 16-0 on Saturday before dropping a doubleheader 4-1 and 5-2 to Louisiana State University-Alexandria on Sunday. LSU also defeated MU 17-1 on Monday.  

Luke Egging and James Scurto picked up the wins for Midland against Champion Christian on Saturday. Egging worked three scoreless innings of relief while Scurto struck out three and didn't allow a run in 3 1/3 innings as a starter in the second game. 

Bryan Smith went 5-for-12 over the weekend with a pair of walks. He scored three runs and also stole a base. Edgar Gallardo had a pair of hits and was also walked once. He stole three bases and scored two runs.

Newcomer Jack Barrios also had a solid start by going 6-for-13 with a home run and five RBI. 

Midland will face MidAmerica Nazarene and William Penn on Saturday in Joplin, Missouri. On Sunday, MU will face Waldorf and Culver-Stockton.
