Fremont High had their Senior Night spoiled by Lincoln North Star, as the Gators defeated the Tigers 3-1 at Al Bahe Gym on Tuesday night.
The Tigers opened the match strong, taking the first set 25-22 before dropping the next three 25-21, 25-23, 25-21.
In the first set, Fremont took an early 5-1 lead with help from a pair of aces by Riley Hoerath as they eventually took a commanding 16-7 lead over the Gators.
North Star then went on a run of their own, scoring seven straight points to close the gap to 16-14. That run was capped off with an ace by Ireland Currey.
The Gators would eventually battle back to take their first lead of the set on a block by Delaney Ashmore and Tara Ferrel, giving North Star a 19-18 lead.
Senior Elizabeth Greunke, and Chelsi Judds-Krenk would then give the Tigers the lead back on a block, making the score 21-20 before taking the set, 25-22.
In the second set both teams battled back and forth, going point-for-point throughout the first half of the match. The score was knotted nine times before the Gators took a 19-18 lead on a block by Miranda Roth and Andrea Gardner.
North Star would then lead the rest of the way before earning the second set win 25-21 on a kill by Roth.
In the third set the Tigers jumped out to another 5-1 lead on a block by Judds-Krenk and would hold the lead until a kill by Gardner put the Gators up 15-14.
After North Star extended their lead to 19-15, the Tigers would fight back to tie the game at 20-20 on a Hannah Wilson kill.
Fremont then retook the lead 21-20 on a Judds-Krenk ace, but a long return on the following point would tie the game at 21-21.
North Star’s Sadie Emmett then helped the Gators regain their advantage with an ace to make the score 22-21. The Gators then took the set on a kill by Ashmore, 25-23.
After falling behind 4-1 in the fourth set, the Tigers closed the gap with help from Hoerath who broke the Gators serve with a kill and then followed that with a pair of aces to tie the score at 4-4.
The Tigers would then take their first lead of the set after tying the game at 11-11 on a Lexi Proskovec kill. A pair of long returns by North Star, and a kill by Greunke would give Fremont a 14-11 lead.
The Gators would retake their lead a few points later, 15-14 on an ace serve by Shelby Cain and would lead the rest of the way eventually winning the set 25-21.
