Fremont High School senior Kayl Ritthaler captured runner-up honors in his division at the 43rd annual Tucson (Arizona) Spring Grand American Singles Trapshooting Championship on Feb. 23.
The Spring Grand is an annual amateur trapshooting association shoot conducted at the Tucson Trap and Skeet Club.
Ritthaler shot his first 100 targets straight, earning a silver thunderbird pin. He finished with 198/200 targets and placed second in the junior division.
Kayl’s father, Bryan Ritthaler and grandfather, Doug Ritthaler, participated with him.
Kayl’s maternal great-grandfather, Marion Ingold, is in the Trapshooting Hall of Fame in Doniphan. Bryan Ritthaler is a former state team champion.
Kayl shoots for the Fremont trapshooting team and plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in the fall.
