Members of the Fremont High School golf team never found their touch Friday during the Tigers’ invitational at the Fremont Golf Club.
Fremont finished in 10th place with a 401. Omaha Westside won the championship with a 318 while Papillion-La Vista and Millard West were next at 322.
“It was a tough day for some of the guys out on the course today,” Fremont coach Matt Burg said. “The course played tough and we just never seemed to get any momentum going.”
The Tigers played well during a home dual win over Blair earlier in the week, but couldn’t get into any rhythm on Friday.
“When you are the host of a tournament, you always expect to perform well, but it just didn’t happen for us today for whatever reason,” Burg said.
Ryan Rogers of Millard West was the meet medalist with a 72. Grant Jabenis of Westside was the runner-up with a 74. Nolan Anderson of PLV was third at 76.
Senior Riley Harms led the Tigers with a 45-43 for an 88.
“It was another slow start for Riley today,” Burg said. “Once he got going, I though he was playing (well). We just need to find a way to get him off to a faster start in tournaments. I think that is a real key for his game.”
Jack Kranz of the Tigers shot a 41 on the front and an 48 on the back for an 89.
“This was the second meet in a row where two holes really kept Jack from having a career-best round,” Burg said. “We just need to work on finding a way to get through a full 18 holes without finding major trouble. Once he figures that out, I think he could put up some really good scores. I was really proud of the way he competed and bounced back from those holes.”
Harrion Roeder (53-58 — 111), Cal Miller (53-60 — 113) and Logan Martinez (58-62 — 120) also competed for the Tigers.
“We are just going to go back to work on Monday and work at improving as a team,” Burg said. “This is a good group of guys and I think they have a desire to get better.”
The Tigers will compete in a dual at Columbus on Monday.
