Fremont High School will begin postseason play in girls basketball by hosting an A-6 district tournament game on Tuesday night.
The second-seeded Tigers , 16-6, will play third-seeded Bellevue West, 8-13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Al Bahe Gymnasium. Top-seeded Papillion-La Vista, 18-4, will host Omaha North, 6-13, in the other first-round game.
The Tigers are ranked eighth in Class A this week by the Omaha World-Herald while the Monarchs are ninth. PLV, however, is sixth in power points while FHS is ninth.
The championship game is scheduled for Feb. 21 at the highest remaining seed.
Millard North, Fremont’s opponent in a regular-season game on Thursday night, is the top seed in the A-7 district. The No. 1-ranked Mustangs open against Norfolk while third-seeded Papillion La Vista South, 8-12, will meet second-seeded and seventh-ranked Lincoln Northeast, 13-6, in the other semifinal.
Lincoln Pius, who edged the Tigers 55-52 in overtime on Friday night, is No. 1 in power points and ranked fifth. The Thunderbolts will face winless Omaha Bryan in the A-1 opener while Omaha Marian, 9-11, travels to Lincoln North Star, 10-10, in the other semifinal. Fremont closes the regular season on Friday night against the Navigators.
Millard South, 17-3 is ranked third and will host Omaha South in the A-2 semifinals. Lincoln High, 10-11, travels to Kearney, 13-9, for the other A-2 opening-round game.
In A-3, fourth-ranked Lincoln Southwest is the top seed and will host Bellevue East. Third-seeded Lincoln Southeast, 8-12, travels to second-seeded Omaha Northwest.
Lincoln East, rated No. 2 at 15-5, is the top seed in A-4 and will host Omaha Central, 4-17. Gretna, 7-11, is the third seed and will play at Omaha Benson, 15-5.
In A-5, sixth-ranked Omaha Westside, 18-4, is the top seed and will play Grand Island, 2-19. Omaha Burke, 10-10, will play at second-seeded Millard West, 11-9. The Wildcats are ranked 10th in Class A.
