The Huskers got out of Piscataway, New Jersey, with a 1-1 tie against Rutgers in the Big Ten soccer opener for both teams on Friday.
Rutgers almost scored first early in the match, with Nneka Moneme's shot hitting the post. Nebraska took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on Savanah Uveges' penalty kick for her team-leading fourth goal and ninth point. The Scarlet Knights increased the pressure in the second half, when they outshot Nebraska 8-1, and finally got the equalizer when Aylmer Taylor scored off a deflection in the 86th minute.

For the match, Rutgers (5-1-2, 0-0-1) outshot Nebraska 17-7, including 7-4 in shots on goal and 4-2 in the two overtimes. Nebraska keeper Aubrei Corder made six saves. Neither team has ever defeated the other, with the series record now 0-0-4.
Up next for Nebraska (4-3-2, 0-0-1) is Maryland (2-3-3) at noon Sunday in College Park. The Terrapins opened their Big Ten season Friday against Iowa.
