How did Los Mezcales Ortiz get started?
Los Mezcales started the way many great ideas do — with an idea spark between my wife and me. We originally dreamed of opening a small Hispanic snack bar to share a little piece of our culture with the Fremont community. But once we got going, that little idea grew wings, took flight and became a full-blown restaurant. And honestly, we fell in love with it.
We started testing dishes like mad scientists in the kitchen — lots of trial, lots of error and lots of fun. That’s how one of our bestsellers, the famous quesabirria, was born. Our mission was simple: bring the flavors of our home cooking directly to your table — no shortcuts, no watered-down flavors — just the real deal.

What are your most popular menu items?
Our margaritas on the rocks are the stars of the show. And then there’s our birria, and Fremont loves birria. We serve it every way you can imagine: quesabirria, birria ramen, birria pizza and more.
