Lee Enterprises, the parent company of the Burt County Plaindealer, announced last week that the newspaper will cease operations following publication of the July 15 edition.
The 8 a.m. Memorial Day service at Tekamah Cemetery May 26 was draped in the familiar. The laying of wreaths, the prayers for the fallen and their families, the firing squad salute, the playing of taps all were part of the brief ceremony hosted by Tekamah’s LaFrenz American Legion Post No. 15.

Word has been received of the death of Leonard Jackson. The 95-year-old, Fremont man passed away on May 24, 2025, at Pathfinder Senior Living. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held later this summer. A complete obituary will be published when it becomes available.
