PLATTSMOUTH – Local authorities stopped traffic on Highway 75 early Wednesday night after a vehicle crashed into a tree near the road.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Plattsmouth police officers, Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department members and Plattsmouth Rescue members all responded to the one-vehicle accident at 6:22 p.m. The incident took place just south of the intersection of Highways 75 and 66 in Plattsmouth.

CCSO deputies said Plattsmouth resident Brooke Heedum, 38, was northbound on Highway 75 when her vehicle swerved off the road and struck a tree on the east side of the highway. The collision caused the car’s airbags to deploy. Heedum was wearing her seat belt at the time.

Plattsmouth Rescue transported Heedum to University of Nebraska Medical Center for her injuries. Authorities provided traffic control for approximately 25 minutes to allow medical personnel to assist her. All crews were able to leave the scene at 6:57 p.m.

Deputies said they are continuing to investigate possible causes of the accident.
