MURRAY – A Sunday morning two-vehicle accident near Murray claimed the lives of a husband and wife from Murdock.
The victims were identified as Douglas R. Erhart, 62, and Donna R. Erhart, 67, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities were notified at approximately 10:30 a.m. about a two-vehicle injury accident on U.S. Highway 75, just north of Nebraska Highway 1, according to Sheriff William C. Brueggemann. Cass County deputies, the Nebraska State Patrol and fire and rescue units from Murray and Plattsmouth responded to the scene.
An investigation determined that a 1999 Ford Taurus, driven by Douglas Erhart, was traveling south on highway 75 when he lost control due to road conditions causing the vehicle to cross the centerline and collide with a northbound 2017 GMC Terrain Denali, driven by Karla A. Manzel, 66, of Bellevue.
Erhart and his passenger, Donna Erhart, were pronounced dead at the scene. Manzel and a passenger, Elizabeth Schroeder, 69, of Mclean, Va., were transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, according to Brueggemann.
Seatbelts were in use at the time of the accident. Road conditions at the time of the accident are believed to be the primary factor in the accident, according to Brueggemann.
