LINCOLN, Neb., Sept. 4, 2026 — The Nebraska Department of Transportation has announced that funds are now available to private non-profit organizations and governmental entities to support transportation needs for seniors and individuals with disabilities. These funds target areas where mass transportation services are unavailable, insufficient, or inappropriate.
Eligible applicants include private non-profit organizations incorporated within Nebraska and governmental entities that certify there are no non-profit agencies able to provide the service in their area. Applications are accepted only for rural and small urban areas, as well as Lincoln. Those in the Omaha area should contact the Mid-America Regional Council for application information.
The funding is provided through the Federal Transit Administration’s Section 5310 program, which aims to enhance mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Applications are restricted to the acquisition of public transportation vehicles.
